Elderly Pedestrian Killed by Semi-truck and Causes Two Other Accidents

Mar 11, 2015

On the morning of February 23, 2015, a 79-year-old women parked along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Gibbon. She then proceeded to get out of her vehicle and walked directly into traffic. She was hit by a semi-truck and killed near mile marker 285. The accident also contributed to two other accidents that involve semi-trucks. The accident is currently being investigated by the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office.

It is unknown at this point why she walked into traffic on Interstate 80, but it seems clear that her actions contributed to her death. Regardless of whether the trucker was at fault, the woman will likely also take at least part of the responsibility for the accident if a lawsuit results from this occurrence.

The accidents that occurred after she was killed may also be connected in a large lawsuit as well. The other truckers could argue that if this woman had not stepped out into traffic, their accidents never would have occurred. Although it is unclear how the other accidents were caused, it is at least plausible that the accidents could be connected in one large suit either against the woman’s estate or against the truck that hit the woman initially.

As police gather more information, the parties involved will likely become clearer. Complicated accidents such as these require a great deal of investigation, including interviewing the drivers and any witnesses. The investigation should also uncover anything that the police found when the accident was initially reported.

Truck accidents can be very complicated, so if you have been involved in a truck accident, contact a Colorado truck accident attorney as soon as possible.
